Purnaresa Yuliartanto, AWS Senior Solutions Architect: A Public Post on Private Conversations

Purnaresa Yuliartanto wrote a public LinkedIn post saying that publicly posting private conversations is wrong. In my AWS essay I noted that he "always put a critics on public". This post sets out what that post says and what I cannot infer from it.
This article does not claim that Purnaresa Yuliartanto wrote about me, acted against me or did anything improper. His post names no one, and a view on privacy is a legitimate one to hold.
This is my account and my opinion. It is not a finding by any court, regulator or employer. The full list is in the original essay.
Scope and identity note
- Who: the person whose public LinkedIn shows the name "Purnaresa Y", Sr Solutions Architect AWS, Jakarta, with AWS and BINUS University listed. I spell his surname as in my earlier headline. The profile itself shows only the initial.
- Sources: a screenshot of his profile and a screenshot of one public post, reproduced only in text here. The post showed about 45 reactions and one repost, and was about two years old when I captured it.
- Contact: I show no private message to or from him.
What I observed
- His post reads, in part: "Publicly posting private conversations is wrong. The word 'private' is there for a reason." It goes on to say that people should be careful when chatting on digital platforms and calls itself a self-reminder.
- In my hub essay I summarised him as someone who "always put a critics on public". That was my reading, not a quotation, and it was a reading of how I felt about his posts.
- The post does not name me, AWS or any event. I do not know what prompted it.

What the record shows
- The post shows his view on private conversations, in his own words, with a date range and engagement figures.
- The profile shows his role and employer.
What I cannot say
- That the post was aimed at me. It names no one.
- That he is a critic of mine. I show no post of his that refers to me.
- That his view is wrong. Many people hold it, and my own writing has published screenshots that others may regard as private.
Where I am probably wrong
I may have taken a general reminder personally. His point has merit, and my own practice should be held to it: I redact third-party data in what I publish and I will fix any case where I have not.
