GDG Jakarta DevFest 2026: Registration Cancelled by the Organizer Without a Stated Reason

Email from GDG Jakarta ID titled "DevFest Jakarta 2026" with a "Notice of Registration Cancellation": "Your registration has been cancelled by the organizer and you have been removed from the event"

On 24 October 2026 GDG Jakarta ID emailed me that my DevFest Jakarta 2026 registration had been cancelled by the organizer. The email gave no reason. This article sets out what the emails and the invoice show, and what they do not.

This is my account as a registrant. It is not a finding by anyone, and it does not accuse any named person of causing the cancellation.

Scope and identity note

The sources are four screenshots from my own mailbox: the cancellation notice, the email header, the sent time, and a DOKU invoice for the same registration. I removed my phone number, email address and invoice number from the images I publish. The screenshots are not forensically authenticated. I do not know who at the organizer took the decision, or whether a person or a system took it.

What the emails show

  1. Invoice (24 October 2026). A DOKU invoice issued for "DevFest Jakarta 2026", with an Early Bird ticket at IDR 125,000, a DevFest T-shirt at IDR 250,000 and a QRIS payment fee of IDR 2,625. Total IDR 377,625. The invoice shows Amount Paid: 0 and Amount Due: IDR 377,625, with a due date of 25 October 2026.
  2. Cancellation notice (24 October 2026, 10:41 PM). From GDG Jakarta ID, subject "Registration Cancelled: DevFest Jakarta 2026". The text reads: "Your registration has been cancelled by the organizer and you have been removed from the event. If you change your mind, you need to re-register again."

DOKU invoice lines: Early Bird 125,000, DevFest T-Shirt 250,000, payment gateway fee 2,625, total 377,625, amount paid 0, amount due 377,625

Invoice dates: invoice date 24 October 2026, due date 25 October 2026

The cancellation email's sent time: 24 Oct 2026 at 10:41 PM

What this does and does not show

Documented: an unpaid invoice due on 25 October; a cancellation email sent on 24 October, one day before that due date, saying the organizer cancelled it.

Not documented:

  • Why the registration was cancelled. The email gives no reason.
  • Whether the cancellation was automatic (for example, a rule that cancels unpaid orders) or a manual decision.
  • Whether payment was possible and expected before the due date. I do not know why I had not paid when the notice arrived.
  • Who at GDG Jakarta, if anyone, decided.

Where I may be wrong

  • The most ordinary explanation is an automatic or capacity-based cancellation. Events commonly cancel unpaid or surplus registrations, and a system can send "cancelled by the organizer" for that.
  • The invoice was unpaid. Any organizer is entitled to release a place that has not been paid for, though cancelling before the stated due date is something I would expect to be explained.
  • I have not yet received a written answer, and one may exist that I have not seen.

A speaker I wondered about

I briefly wondered whether Alvin Prayuda Juniarta Dwiyantoro, a workshop speaker named on the DevFest Jakarta 2026 poster, had anything to do with the cancellation. No document I hold links him to it. The email names only "the organizer", and the invoice offers an ordinary explanation. I do not claim he had any role. The full record of why I wondered, and why it does not hold, is in Alvin Prayuda Juniarta Dwiyantoro and DevFest Jakarta 2026: what the record does and does not show.

What I am asking GDG Jakarta

  1. The specific reason my registration was cancelled.
  2. Whether unpaid registrations are cancelled before the invoice due date, and where that rule is published.
  3. Whether I may re-register or have the registration reinstated, and under what conditions.

For the practical steps behind these questions, see how to ask an organizer why a registration was cancelled.

Right of reply and correction policy

GDG Jakarta, the DevFest Jakarta 2026 organising team and Alvin Prayuda Juniarta Dwiyantoro are invited to send a response, correction or added context, including the reason for the cancellation. A substantive response may be published alongside this article, subject to reasonable editing for privacy, safety and relevance. If reliable evidence shows that any factual statement here is wrong, I will correct it and note the change.
